Baan Sabai Dee- Wang Nam Khiao
Baan Sabai Dee serves delicious "Khai Katah" or the Northeastern equivalent of the American Breakfast. It originated from the Korat airbase during the American presence during the Vietnam War. The pan("katah") should made from scrap aircraft grade aluminum. Thai gunchiang sausage and moo yor are the Thai wifes' substitute for bacon which at that time was not available outside the PX. Baan Sabai Dee also serves a variety of pork noodles which we find to our delight that they are the best in Wang Nam Khiew. The shop is on two levels with terraces facing the forest to provide a pleasant dining ambience.

Phaya Inn -Lamphun
Phaya Inn has just opened in Lamphun or Lamphoon. It is a small hotel built by Khun Amarin(he is the younger brother of Khun Mallika who is married to my cousin Doong)as a hobby but it nice and comfortable. And it is only Baht 650 per night but without breakfast. Phaya Inn is now the most decent accommodation in Lamphun. Lamphun is very close to Chiangmai and most travelers have by-passed it so good hotels are lacking. Hopefully, Phaya Inn will provide some type of breakfast in the future for its guests once the hotel is fully opened.

Pete Seeger
In 1963 Pete Seeger came to give a concert in Rome, Italy and most of us at Notre Dame International School, Rome attended the concert. We were profoundly moved and instilled with the fighting spirit of Pete's songs(such as:“Guantanamera,” “Where Have All The Flowers Gone,” “If I Had A Hammer,” “Turn Turn Turn,” “Wimoweh,” “We Shall Overcome”) and have been rebellious ever since, starting with our protest marches in Troy,N.Y. and in Philadelphia, Pa., throughout the Age of Aquarius, the Flower Revolution, Hippies, and so forth ...to today. This is Pete Seeger singing at Lincoln Memorial at age 89 for President elect Obama's Inauguration Celebration to complete a full cycle. He is joined with Bruce Springstein, another of our favorite revolutionary musicians.

American Appraisal (Thailand) Ltd.
In 1974 we set up American Appraisal (Thailand) Ltd. as the first independent and professional appraiser of real estate, machinery & equipment, and valuer of business operations. This is after several visits by Arthur Chanin of Asian Appraisal H.K.& Phillipines to TISCO. We brought in The Crown Property Bureau, Thai Farmers Bank and Siam Commercial Bank as shareholders hoping they would generate some appraisal business for the company. Now these three have sold out to American Appraisal Company USA who is the major shareholder. After 34 years the company continues profitably in its endeavours. while there are now over 40 registered appraisal companies with the SEC who compete for the limited business.
Above is Rod Vergara, the Managing Director since 1975 and still working hard, having lunch with me at the Oriental Hotel.
